The Great RSPCA Isle of Wight Dog Walk
Enjoy a pawsome day out with your doggy pals, friends and family on Sunday 27 April - including a ride on a steam train!
What's On
The RSPCA Isle of Wight has teamed up with the Isle of Wight Steam Railway who have offered their amazing venue to walkers and their dogs.
Treat your pet to a commemorative tag and enjoy some dog-related fun and games, including a Family Dog Show organised by the Friends of the Animals. Enter one of the classes on the day for just £3 per dog per class.
Your ticket includes free admission to the attractions at Havenstreet Station. Take time to wander through the carriage and wagon workshops to see the restoration work that is underway, and visit the Train Story Discovery Centre which houses and incredible selection of vintage trains spanning 150 years of railway history.
Morning Walk

Guided Walk : Wootton to Havenstreet – 3 miles (5km)
Meet at Havenstreet station from 09:45 onwards in time to catch the 10:15 train to Wootton Station. Having walked through the outskirts of Wootton, the route then proceeds through Briddlesford Woods, largely owned by the People’s Trust for Endangered Species and home to dormice and red squirrels. After crossing over the railway line at Woodhouse Crossing, make the walk back to Havenstreet station via Great Briddlesford Farm. Arrive back at Havenstreet with plenty of time for lunch, catch the action at the Dog Show, and explore the station’s museums.

Friends of the Animals Fun Dog Show
The Fun Dog Show is being organised by The Friends of the Animals. Enter from 10am on the day – lots of fun classes to choose from at £3 per dog per class which will include prettiest or most handsome, waggiest tail, best six legs, best veteran and best in show.
Afternoon Walk

Briddlesford Woods Circular – 5 miles (8km)
This circular walk starts and finishes at Havenstreet station. Arrive with lots of time to explore the station’s museums and catch the action in the arena before the start of the walk at 14:00. The route heads through the extensive station site and out along gravel tracks to Great Briddlesford Farm. A pleasant footpath through the fields leads towards Wootton with the first crossing of the railway line at Packsfield Crossing. Then continue on the charming bridleway through Briddlesford Woods, before re-crossing the line at Woodhouse Crossing and retracing your steps back to Havenstreet.
Activities at Havenstreet Station
10:00am – 4:30pm
Expect lots of doggy-focused fun throughout the day at Havenstreet. The Family Dog Show, organised by The Friends of the Animals, commences at midday with lots of fun classes to choose from at £3 per dog per class which will include prettiest or most handsome, waggiest tail, best six legs, best veteran and best in show. Browse a range of dog-related stalls and catch a display or two. The Railway Refreshment Rooms and Barn Café will be open, offering a wide selection of drinks, snacks and hot meals. Alternatively you’re welcome to bring your own picnic to enjoy in the station gardens watching the trains go by.
Because of the nature of the event dogs will need to be well-behaved and be kept on a lead at all times.
All funds raised from this event will support the Isle of Wight Branch of the RSPCA which cares for the Island’s most vulnerable animals.
Getting There
By train: Board frequent Island Line services from Ryde, Brading, Sandown, Lake or Shanklin, taking you directly to Smallbrook Junction station, where it's a simple cross-platform connection to the Steam Railway.
By car: Enter PO33 4DS into your satnav or head for Havenstreet (3 miles from Ryde and 3 miles from Newport) and look for road signs to Havenstreet or brown signs showing the Steam Railway.
There is a large free car park. Please allow at least 20 minutes to park and collect your tickets prior to your train journey.
